Upright’s New Year’s Eve Bash!

uprightcabaret-marks-newyearsad10x8-72dpi.jpgSing in the New Year at Upright Cabaret’s 2nd Annual New Year’s Eve Bash starring Broadway’s Chad Kimball, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Adam Lambert at Mark’s Restaurant. 

Acclaimed singer, actor and Broadway performer CHAD KIMBALL  returns to the Upright stage after his critically acclaimed performance this fall in the Broadway bound production of MEMPHIS. Kimball was last seen on Broadway portraying Beatles front man John Lennon in LENNON at the Broadhurst Theatre. In 2002, Kimball received praise for his work in the Broadway revival of INTO THE WOOD’S. Other Broadway credits include THE CIVIL WAR and GOOD VIBRATIONS. Chad also won a Bistro Award for his solo concert, which he reprised at Joe’s Pub and Upright Cabaret.  

Mr. Kimball will be joined on by LESLIE ODOM, JR. who was the youngest actor to ever be cast in the Broadway production of RENT. After his stint on Broadway, Odom attended Carnegie Melon University and then relocated to Los Angeles where he has appeared on CSI, Big Day, Grey’s Anatomy and countless other TV productions. Also appearing will be WICKED alum ADAM LAMBERT. Angeleno’s were first introduced to Mr. Lambert with his show stopping performance in the world premier of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS musical at the Kodak Theatre. 

This talented cast for gentlemen will be lead by L.A.’s legendary Music Director Gerald Sternbach. Sternbach was recently presented the Joel Hirschhorn award for excellence in the musical theater by the LA Drama Critics Circle. He has also won an Ovation Award and two Garland Awards.  He made his LA Philharmonic debut at the Hollywood Bowl in 2005 as on-stage pianist for Stephen Sondheim’s 75th Birthday – The Concert, assisting Paul Gemignani.

Also at the Broadhurst, he donned the peculiar guise of Milky-White the Cow in the Broadway revival of Into the Woods in 2002. Other Broadway includes The Civil War and Good Vibrations. Off-Broadway includes Irish Repertory’s Finian’s Rainbow, My Life with Albertine at Playwright’s Horizons and the revival of Godspell. Regional theatre includes Sweeney Todd at the Signature Theatre, Baby at Papermill Playhouse and Chess in concert. Chad won a Bistro Award for his solo concert, which he reprised at Joe’s Pub. adam-lambert-300-dpi.jpgAdam Lambert recently appeared at the Pantages Theatre in the LA Company of Wicked understudying “Fiyero” and appearing in the ensemble. Adam’s breakthrough theatre performance was as Joshua in The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theatre in 2004 opposite Val Kilmer. His tour de force performance became a press and crowd favorite with the New York Times calling him “the most consistent crowd-wower” and the LA Times stating that his “personal sound and style… (was) the best.” After The Ten Commandments, Adam was cast to understudy “Fiyero” in the 1st National Broadway Tour of Wicked. Musical Theatre credits include, Hair (European Tour ’03), 110 in the Shade (Pasadena Playhouse), On the 20th Century (Reprise!), Evita (Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities), Grease, Chess (Moonlight Ampitheatre). In addition to theatre work, Adam has also ventured into the Hollywood music scene. He has been collaborating with Composer/Guitarist Monte Pittman (Madonna) for close to three years. Together they’ve formed an alt/pop/rock/electro band called THE CITIZEN VEIN. They are currently working with Producer Malcolm Welsfords  and A&R Worldwide to record an album. Adam has performed at the Henry Fonda Music Box in the glam-rock revue the “The Zodiac Show”, the Key Club and in “Club Makeup’s Halloween Show”. He is currently on the prowl for additional producers and musical collaborators.

239501-0.jpgLeslie Odom, Jr. is an original member of Upright Cabaret who recently starred in Being Alive, the all black Sondheim project directed by Billy Porter. His television credits include guest and recurring roles on CSI Miami, Gilmore Girls, Threshold, Big Day, Vanished and The Big House. West coast theater credits include Jersey Boys (La Jolla Playhouse), Applause (Reprise), and Sondheim’s 75th at the Hollywood Bowl. Odom made his Broadway debut in Rent before attending Carnegie Mellon University’s prestigious school of Drama.\

He was recently presented the Joel Hirschhorn award for excellence in the musical theater by the LA Drama Critics Circle. In addition, he has won one Theater LA Ovation Award and two Garland Awards.  He made his LA Philharmonic debut at the Hollywood Bowl the summer of ’05 as on-stage pianist for Stephen Sondheim’s 75th Birthday – The Concert, also assisting Paul Gemignani. Additional Credits: Associate Conductor for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Merlin and The Tap Dance Kid (all Broadway), Les Miserables (LA premiere company), conducted the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song and Dance (starring Melissa Manchester). He has accompanied a wide variety of artists from Marilyn Horne, Florence Henderson, and Carol Burnett, to Nancy Wilson, Donna McKechnie, John Lithgow, Kelsey Grammar, Jason Graae and Jennifer Hudson. Just last winter, he was seen on stage playing piano for Carrie Fisher in her brilliant one woman show, Wishful Drinking, at the Geffen Playhouse. He has musically directed four S.T.A.G.E benefits, one Actors Fund Benefit; two Les Girls Benefits (for National Breast Cancer Coalition), and four of Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Divas Simply Singing Benefits — all star studded.). His song “Mary” (written in collaboration with Faye Greenberg) – a paean to “The Mary Tyler  Moore Show,” was performed on the  2003 TV Land Awards show by Eric  McCormack – in the presence of the original cast of the landmark sitcom.
